Worldwide competition for photographers

Deadline: November 15, 2020.

International competition in black and white photography. Jury: DAN BURKHOLDER. Participation is open both to amateurs and professionals.

The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) invites photographers from around the world to participate. A prize fund of $4,000 is prepared for the winners, and the best are waiting for online promotion and publication in the catalog. The winners of the grand prize will be shown on the main page of the site https://www.nyc4pa.com.

About the theme BLACK AND WHITE:

It's time for NYC4PA to return to one of its favorite themes, black and white. This is our tribute to the origins of photography, which ruled before the dramatic changes that occurred when colour film was introduced.

Send monochrome images to the contest where all emotions, texture and beauty are expressed in shades from white to dark. Whether the picture was taken with a film or SLR camera, on the phone or otherwise, if the final product is stunningly black and white, it is the right one. Sepia is also accepted.

Experimental and mixed techniques are welcome, but only 2D.

Exhibition and awards

There will be 10 winners in total. Another 20 winners with the status of Jury Choice and 20 with the status of "Honorary mention".

Money prizes

Grand Prix (to one photographer): $1,100.

First prize (to three photographers): $400 each.

Second prize (to three photographers): $325 each

Third prize (for three photographers): $250 each

All winners will also be awarded certificates and shown in an online gallery and catalogue.

Jury: Dan Burkholder

Dan is known for looking beyond the horizons of photography to discover new ways to take pictures. In the early 90's he wrote the groundbreaking book "Making Digital Negatives for Contact Printing".

After Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf of Mexico coast in 2005, Burkholder captured the chaos of New Orleans in his piercing monograph "The Color of Loss", the first book to be taken entirely using HDR techniques.
