Curator Kirill Preobrazhensky conducted review of work of the Tyumen artists, talked about what problems he sees in young modern art and explained why it is important to have your own opinion.

Project START visited Tyumen. Curator  of the season 2015/2016, the teacher of the Moscow school of photography and multimedia. Alexander Rodchenko and the British higher school of design Kirill Preobrazhensky held a portfolio review co-working center “My”.

3 hours, 27 artists, more than 200 works, photographs, sketches, paintings and drawings-  Kirill commented on the work of each of the participants and told in which direction to move on. Concept, novelty, their own vision – the main selection criteria. Today the profession of an artist does not mean only the craft. “We live in a situation of an overabundance of visual images, per second there are millions of photos on the ground. In these circumstances, it is very important to define yourself, create your own world. It is important to understand how what you do differs from post in Instagram or other social network. The weakness of young artists, especially in the regions, I see that there is not enough design thinking. People have very strong individual works, but I don't understand who really is the man. I have asked many the same question: where are you? Modern art in addition to their aesthetic and formal challenges, it is the engine of innovation. These innovations are primarily associated with thinking, with the forms of functioning of society, communication, new languages, new ways of involving the audience", - says Kirill Preobrazhensky.

Part in the Start – this is a chance to present their project regardless of its future commercial success and to Express themselves. The young artist is not so much opportunity to reveal himself and his work a serious, professional artistic community. But it is important not only that the Tyumen artists and photographers were able to talk about their projects and get feedback, but also the fact that they got together. Now they know that they are not alone, in that there are people who are interested in contemporary art and willing to pursue its development. «To arose some kind of situation, it is necessary to build communication. The environment is very important, which will carry out joint actions, meetings, sharpen the discourse,” – explains Cyril. To meet, to look at each other, to have a conversation – a step towards community building. It is in the future, perhaps, will determine the development of young art in Tyumen.
