"Hurrah! Sculpture!" Conference

January 30 from 12 to 20 in Vintage hall  WINZAVOD centre for contemporary art in the exhibition «Hurrah! Sculpture!" there will be a conference on sculpture, organized by the Institute of “BASE”. The project is trying to develop actual thinking about art and public space, focusing on the context of today's cultural events.

the Department of modern sculpture remains one of the Central departments in the European system of art education, although to delineate the boundaries of sculpture, both from the point of view of academia, and from the point of view of artistic technique, today it is much harder in comparison with other medial means: whether it be painting, drawing, film or photography. One of the most contentious issues in the center of which is the sculpture always remains the value of art for the public space of the modern city, interaction with the themes of collective memory, memorial and monument, inherited from the times of votive images and commemorative steles.

In 2016, the supervisors large conference Sculpture Unlimited in Linz, jörg heiser and Eva Grubinger, proposed to reflect on the prospects of sculpture in the near future. Very soon will open another show of "Sculpture projects in münster" permanent under the direction of Kasper könig, offering a systematic look at the sculpture in the "expanded field", where it intersects the aesthetic and the political, private will and public interest. Attempting to resolve the sharp contradiction between "autonomy of the art object" and social engagement, as part of a major sculptural exhibition at the time took shape methods "social plasticity" of Th. Boise, ID and “self-destructive art" artist and activist G. Metzger.

a number of recent artistic developments in Moscow in different ways raised the question of sculpture and art project in public space is the exhibition "the Sculpture, which we do not see" in the Arena (about objects, devoid of open public opinion, created in the atmosphere of ideological control over the visual appearance of the urban space), and competitive program of the Foundation V-A-C "Expansion space. Artistic practice in the urban environment" (focused around public art and the decentralization of artistic production in the cities), and actively developing the Museum. Vadim Sidur, is entirely devoted to sculpture. Many researchers are turning to the monumental art of the USSR trying to develop alternative approaches to the analysis and evaluation of artistic strategies in the public field: the platform ’s HEADQUARTERS– and the reports of the researcher Owen Hatherly, and lectures Alexandra Novozhenova.

a Project of the Institute of “BASE” “Hurrah! Sculpture!" trying to develop actual thinking about art and public space, focusing on the context of today's cultural events, but being an educational platform that focuses on the status of sculpture in the educational process, and on "emerging artists" for which it is important to develop their own aesthetic and political position in relation to sculpture.
