Young artists from Krasnoyarsk Anna Omelik and Darya Vorobieva work in the genre of installation. Under their belt there are several realized projects, each of which is a recreation of a particular subject environment, transfer of the experience, atmosphere or the feeling, behind that the story appears. In their works space is as important as form or material, but only last preset the direction of each particular project. Artists practice not an intellectual, but sensual approach to the material, in which every project starts with a vision of form and surface.
Installation «Imani» presented at the START is no exception. The installation was inspired by observation of the most common scene — a snowfall, for girls it seemed like the Tetris game. By recreating the impression of snow, soft and cozy as knitted sweater, this installation also includes pictures. They refer to the incredible number of names for different states of snow that exist in the language of Evenkis, nation living in the far north. Evensky «Imani» in the title of work means the snow around the house. If the language describes the reality, and its words convey the meaning of its own events and objects, the richness of this language reflects the diversity of the world around. Linguistic turn of installation allows you to think not only about the structure of our language, but also about the vision, which curiously appears not really as a natural ability, but as a phenomenon developed by the culture.
The artists about their work:
«For several days it was snowing. So much snow. Every day a new snow, so no time to become black with dirt and exhaust fume, but nevertheless it was not white — it’s gray, like the entire city. Bearing-wall houses, asphalt, smoke of factories. As the sky with clouds and smog, this covers the sun. And even just fallen, it’s never white because small pieces of ice reflect all around. But it is not bad and not sad, it’s very beautiful. And inspired by different names for the snow in northern languages we want to name it. Necessarily Evenki would come up something if live in the city. They would come up a lot of different words for everything that surrounds them in the city. We did not come up... And it’s not even because we do not like it, but because we somehow do not pay attention to what surrounds us constantly.
Evenkis have the specific word — IMANI — the snow around the house ... So, last night I molded a snowman, and I wanted to have a special name of snow around my home too».

Evenks have the word — Imani — snow around the house. If the language is used to describe the reality, and the words convey the meaning of the phenomenon and the objects, the richness of the language reflects the diversity of the world. The linguistic turn that takes the installation let us think both over the linguistic structure and the visions which are not so much a natural phenomenon as the phenomenon of culture.
