The artist from Astrakhan Ksenia Sorokina for a debut solo exhibition on the site of young art START has issued six series of video documentaries for her performances. Ksenia explores the formation and modes of existence of women’s identity in the contemporary society. At the exhibition opening on 2 July Ksenia Sorokina will show performance «The Hands».
The exhibition «Nine women» is nine characters, perfect for identity of the modern woman. Ksenia Sorokina indicates the boundaries of modern ideas about women and women’s identity based on media clichés and subconscious stereotypes of femininity. Ancient rituals, historical events and personal experiences become the material to realize the ideas of the artist. Her own narrative Ksenia Sorokina builds on historical material from ancient Slavic rites to political speeches of women for their rights.
