November 4 — November 28
Exhibition of the new participant of START Programme Yulia Ivashkina is an attempt to explore the spaces that exist in imagination as an echo of the past, images of disappeared or lost places. The installation consists of objects, drawings and interior items and refers to memories of a small Soviet military town Olovyannaya-4 where Yulia was born and lived for the first two years of her life.
Arseniy Zhilyaev, curator of START Programme: «The world that appears in the works of Ivashkina is similar to the world of Lewis Carroll’s Alice. At first glance it is woven of occasions and alogical confrontations, as if a vision of natural disaster or a fragment of a night street broke into a cosy home interior. Spectator finds himself in a dream space where one has no possibility to identify time and place. In a certain sence the exhibition „Harkening Here and There“ is an attempt of an artist to examine the origins of her feelings».
Arseniy Zhilyaev
The works of Yulia have a special, anxious feeling of the space. "Listening in each place she evokes images of the lost or missing places which exist only in the imagination like echoes of the past. She outlines a subtle, almost invisible border between the reality and the memory’s reflection.
