The WINERY project for support of young Russian artists continues to open new names. In August START presents the work of Valentin Tkach. For his first personal exhibition called Vertigo (Latin for «vertigo») Valentyn Tkach has prepared a series of paintings.
In his artistic method Valentin Tkach refers to a cinematic conception of thrillers and psychological dramas. Vertigo — a zoom-in effect, the «suction» of the background when you contemplate the stillness of the object. A painful condition, which is followed by the feeling of a constant motion, rotation of the surrounding objects, when «the earth moves under his feet». He portrates the old cinemas, the abandoned plants as if was a hypnetic dream.

The word «Vertigo» depending on the context has a wide variety of translations and quite a large plume of cultural associations. From Latin it is usually translated as «dizziness», perhaps such an effect in different manifestations is a key for the understanding of painting techniques of Valentin Tkach. The author adds some more details. «I’m interested in the Soviet Apocalypse. I’m in love with the theory of catastrophes». The set of references might seem mutually exclusive. However, just in these paradoxes and semantic gaps which constantly have to face the viewer was born the art of Valentin Tkach.
