In cooperation with KulturKontakt Austria, Federal Chancellery of Austria holds a residence at Vienna and Salzburg in 2017.

the Residence is designed to offer the opportunity to get acquainted with the Austrian art scene and cultural environment. 

During their stay, the artists in residence will meet with the art world and cultural environment. The activities included in the residence include visits to galleries, studios and museums, contacts with the literary and publishing industries, as well as access to the musical life of Vienna or Salzburg. Whenever possible, participants  will receive free tickets to the book fair and art fair, performances Tanzquartier Wien international dance festival Impuls Tanz and other events.

During your stay in Salzburg, the artists in residence will be under the care Kunstverein Salzburg.

There is a possibility actively to participate in the program, the Artist-Residence-Is-In-School program includes workshops at Austrian schools).

These residences are intended for artists whose permanent residence is outside of Austria and who have completed their training. 

you Must have a working knowledge of German or English language.

Applications are accepted from candidates up to 40 years, that is the date of birth of the applicants must be after December 31, 1976, If the application is filed in tandem with at least one of the artists must be under the age of 40 years.

Artists that have been involved residences that were organized Kulturkontakt Austria, the Federal Chancellery of Austria or the Austrian Federal Ministry for education, arts and culture, may not participate.

Applications can only be submitted to one of the following disciplines:

• Visual arts *

• Literature

• Literature for children and young people

• Literary translation

• Cultural education ****

* Applications for performing arts will not be accepted.

** For organisational reasons, the programme cannot accept applications in the discipline of “Movie” (short films, feature films, documentaries, avant-garde or experimental films, etc.).

*** Art / Science / Technology. In this discipline applications will be accepted from artists who work in the context of humanitarian and natural Sciences and / or technology. These include projects at the intersection of art, science and technology, which, depending on their quality and character, promote the development of new and innovative thematic areas in art and culture.

**** Cultural education. If You are applying in the discipline, please note that teachers of culture in the framework of the residence are responsible for the pedagogical part of exhibitions, concerts, theatre, etc., and are responsible for the communication between the viewer and the artist or art. Cultural education can be expressed in various forms, including arts education in formal and not formal educational institutions and educational programmes in cultural institutions.

the Length of stay varies, depending on the artistic discipline:

• 3 months for visual artists, photographers, video and media artists, kinds of Art / Science / Technology, composers

• 1-2 months for writers and translators of literature

• 1 month for education in the field of culture and art

the Grants are funded by the Federal Chancellery of Austria in the framework of the residence. Kulturkontakt Austria acts as consultant and provides organizational support.

That provides a residence?

• Residence presented in Vienna (all disciplines) or Salzburg (only fine art, photography, video and media art).

• Placement depending on availability: Schloss  Laudon  Parkdependance (14th arrondissement), in a room in the apartment in the 3rd or 9th district of Vienna or apartment in Salzburger Kunstverein in Salzburg.

• Location in Vienna made the administration of the residence. Unfortunately, individual preferences cannot be taken into account.

• the Use of the Studio in the 2nd district of Vienna, and in Schloss Laudon  or Salzburger Kunstverein.

• contribution to the cost of living expenses in the amount of € 800 a month. In the absence of more than 7 days, will be paid a Pro rata share of the cost of living expenses.

• one-time contribution to the materials - € 300 for visual artists and composers.

• the Cost of translation of text (no more than 10 pages, 1800 characters each) from a foreign language into German writers.

• travel Expenses and visa fees will not be paid and will not be returned.

• Will be provided accident insurance and medical insurance; Insurance cover excludes chronic disease and dental work.

• depending on length of stay and place of residence, residents provide mobile Internet access and SIM-card or WLAN for the entire duration of their stay. Laptops are not provided.

• the entire length of stay will be given a mobile phone with a one-time Deposit of € 40.

• Residents will also receive a monthly ticket for public transport in Vienna or Salzburg for the entire duration of their stay.

• Regular cleaning and change of bed linen and towels will be provided weekly or monthly, depending on place of residence.

• At the end of the residence can be arranged for the presentation of works (if confirmed by the organizer)

• Financial support cannot be granted for the production of catalogues, translations, releases, books and speeches.

• Residents may not place other people (family members, friends, acquaintances, etc.) or Pets in the residence. Only residents may stay overnight in the places of residence.

• No studios or apartments are not equipped for the needs of people with special needs.

• Compliance with internal regulations of the residence is of paramount importance.
